Week in 3 Words 8.26.11

The 1st week in 3 words for the 2011 - 2012 school year.  To see all week in 3 words, click the tab at the top of the page.

1st Week Wrap

We have successfully completed the 1st week of the 2011 - 2012 school year, albeit a short one.   All in all, it has been a very good week.  Normally on the 1st three days of school it is unbearably HOT all day/week long.  This year, we only had one terribly hot day... the other two were only slightly hot!

This week, we welcomed just over 200 freshmen to the building and 8 new teachers.  We also had class meetings for every grade level, took a senior class picture, and cheered for our 1st Spirit March of the year!

Feedback from staff and students has been positive so far about this year.  The new teachers have complimented (over & over again) that the students here are so attentive and courteous -- what a great reflection on our community!

Thanks to the parents & community for being supportive of our school and for raising such a great group of students.  Here's to another great year!

1st Day 2011 - 2012

It was a great day here at CHS.

So, maybe it was a little hot, but it has definitely been even hotter in this building in past years!  The staff and students were clearly excited and ready to start this morning.  Students here are happy with our new cell phone policy that allows the devices to be used in between classes and at lunch and also opens the door for educational use of cell phones in the classroom per teacher policy.  Like so many things we do, this policy and experiment is a work in progress toward what we believe to be a move toward more 21st century skills and mindset.

In addition to an overall good day, we received great news here at CHS early this morning.  For the 10th year in a row (and since State Rankings began), Celina High School was ranked Excellent by the Ohio Department of Education.  This ranking is the highest honor a high school can receive.  We are also part of one of the few districts in the state of Ohio to be ranked Excellent with Distinction.  We have a great deal to celebrate and be proud of here in Celina.  Visit our facebook page for a video with some CHS highlights: facebook.com/CelinaHighSchool.  Here is a link to our State report card: http://goo.gl/TYGdj.

We look forward to another great year of Excellence!

Damon Springer

On the first day of school, 2011-2012, we read this message at the beginning of the day in memory of Damon Springer:

It's been said that:
Death cannot kill what never dies.

... And it's true.  Some things never die... like memories for instance.  Memories of a warm smile or a special touch... memories of moments shared with one another... memories of a look that no one else will ever give or just a way of being that no one else will ever possess.

What never dies is that part of us that is unique and unrepeatable.  That part lives forever in the hearts and minds of those who cared for us... who knew us... who shared our journey through life no matter how brief.

And when we remember those we've lost, we may cry or smile or even be angry because life can be so incredibly unfair.  But we remember nonetheless, and when we do, the one we remember lives on in our hearts and in our minds.

Today, we dedicate this message to Damon Springer, who was a unique and unrepeatable human being.  He touched our lives in ways both big and small.  In memory of Damon, we offer a moment of silence.

This week, CHS lost one of our own.  Damon Springer died in a tragic accident on Monday afternoon.

Damon was in this year's junior class and was a member of the wrestling team.  Teachers and students remember him for his smile and sense of humor.

Funeral arrangements for Damon:

  • Viewing: Thursday, August 18th from 2 - 8 PM @ Cisco Funeral Home
  • Funeral: Friday, August 19th @ 10:30 AM @ Mt. Tabor Church of God
