High School 101

On Wednesday night, CHS hosted the 3rd annual "High School 101: An Orientation for 8th Grade Parents".  The night was a huge success with more than 150 in attendance.  Parents and students were introduced to each high school teacher and were given an overview of high school curriculum, activities, and events.  Here is the promotional video that was played for the parents.

Another Talented Performance

We will continue to post some of the performances from the Talent Show from last Friday.  Even though this one did not place, it was certainly a favorite.  Please watch, listen, and enjoy Kelsea Eblen & Angie Fisher sing "Many the Miles".

CHS Has Talent

The 1st ever Celina High School Talent Show was a huge success.  With over 300 tickets sold and more than $1,000 raised for the Family Crisis Network, the event was certainly well received and attended.  Put on by the Leadership Class as a group project, this event brought 14 different acts to the audience, ranging from singing to Chinese Juggling to a comedy act.

Awards went to the following acts:

3rd place: "I'm Yours" by the band Chemical Toilet
2nd place: "Hip Hop Routine" by Taylor Strable, Taryn Orick, and the Dance Team
1st place: "Comedy Act" by Andrew Bair, Joe Bonvillian, and Bryan Robbins
Top Singing Act: "Watch Over You" by Joel McDonald (receives recording time [$100 value] courtesy of Towns End Productions)

Special Thanks to the Leadership Class for putting on this event.  We hope it is a yearly show!

Here is video of the winning act... definitely worth your time to watch!

Is That Tweeting I Hear @ CHS?

Tweeting is not just for the celebrities any more!  Twitter has made its way into mainstream America in many ways.  Not as popular as Facebook (yet), this "microblogging" service is an easy was to give short updates on one's status.  Many celebrities use Twitter to connect with their fans (Ashton Kutcher has over 6 million followers!) and more recently, businesses and organizations began using this social media tool to connect with customers and constituents.  For example, McDonald's, Walmart, and the Cincinnati Reds are all on Twitter and so are many politicians: Barack Obama, John Kasich, & John Boehner to name a few.

So how does any of this apply to Celina High School?  Well, now we are Tweeting... using this service as another way to connect with the students, parents, the community, and the world.  Here is a sample tweet:
The Ohio Graduation Test officially begins this morning! Good luck to all taking the test! 14 Mar

1 Year of Blogging

CHS celebrates today 1 year of blogging.  This 21st Century tool has been an excellent form of communication with parents, students, and the community over the past year and we hope it continues to grow in popularity and readership.  Our goal in publishing the Bulldog News blog is to keep the public informed about events happening here at CHS with short articles, pictures, and video.  Recently, we have added links for video announcements, OGT practice, and bell schedules among other items of interest.  Feedback and comments are always welcomed and encouraged.  Please tell us what you think about the CHS Bulldog News blog by commenting below or by visiting our Facebook page.

The Seniors collect their Runner-Up Trophy.
Congratulations!
Here is a rewind to our very 1st blog post.  It celebrated the good news of a basketball team going to Regionals for the first time in 36 years.  Unfortunately, this year (2011), we report that our battling Bulldogs lost by 2 in the District Championship.  It was a great season and we are just as proud of our Bulldogs today as we were 1 year ago today!  If you haven't seen the Good Luck video from the spirit squad, check it out... it showcases our Dogs quite well!

Ready for the Big Game

It will certainly be a full house tonight at ONU for the district championship game between Celina and Van Wert.  Celina fans are already showing their spirit!

UPDATE:
We may have lost the game, but it was a well played and hard fought game by our Bulldogs.  Our fans certainly outdid the Van Wert fans in attendance and support:

Thanks to all who supported the Dogs during the season and in tournament action.  It certainly was an unforgettable season.

Bloopers

One of the best 'new' things we have done this school year has been our video announcements.  Each day, different students bring the announcements to their classmates (and now to the world via our blog).  Included in these announcements is our daily feature of Project Wisdom and other fun and interesting bits of information.

Of course, along the way, those of us that are on the announcements are sure to mess up (and some more than others!).  Here is a recent blooper reel... You can see that we have a lot of fun making these announcement videos!  ENJOY a good laugh on us!

What are They Doing? Roasting Marshmallows?

UPDATE:  These are ceramics students completing a final project.  For the full version of this story, visit the CSHS Visual Voices blog.

CHS Gets Social

Recently, Celina High School began using Facebook and Twitter as a way to keep parents, the community, and students informed about events and other happenings at CHS.  In conjunction with our Bulldog News blog, these two 'Social Media' outlets help us to connect with the CHS community in a 21st Century way and like never before.  Among other things, we can now give up to the minute updates, share pictures, solicit real time feedback, and play announcements and show other videos for everyone to see.  We certainly hope to maintain these outlets as effective ways to communicate with our community and we welcome input and feedback.

Finding us on Facebook is easy... either use the link on the left side of our blog or search 'Celina High School' on Facebook.  Be sure to 'Like' us!

Finding us on Twitter is also very easy... either use the link on the left side of our blog or search CHSBulldogNews on Twitter.  You can also subscribe to receive a text message every time we update on Twitter (about once/day on average) by texting the phrase 'follow CHSBulldogNews' to the number 40404.

Mourning the Loss of Nick

Today, CHS mourns the loss of Senior Nick Evans.  Nick passed away Sunday evening and will be missed by his teachers & classmates.  Nick was a kind and friendly student.  Today, classmates posted notes and wrote messages on Nick's locker.

Our thoughts are with Nick and his family.

Services for Nick Evans will be held in Columbus at O. R. Woodyard Funeral Home.  Visitation is from 6 - 8 PM on Thursday, March 3rd and the Funeral is at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 4th.  For more information and for directions, visit http://orwoodyard.com.
