CHAMBER CHOIR selected to sing National Anthem

The CHS Chamber Choir, under the direction of Ms. Cricket Smith, was selected this week to sing the National Anthem before the June 13th Cincinnati Reds game.  The day has been designated Celina Day at Great American Ball Park.  To order tickets for the game, contact the Mercer County Chamber of Commerce or go to http://www.reds.com/celina.

The students of CHS have put on another great performance!  CONGRATULATIONS to the cast and crew on a job well done!  Thanks for all your hard work.

2nd Blood Drive a Huge Success

On Friday, April 9th, CHS hosted the 2nd blood drive of the school year.  113 CHS students volunteered to donate blood.  A total of 89 productive units were collected during the drive.  As a thank you to the students of CHS, the American Red Cross will be awarding a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior.  THANKS to the students that supported this worthwhile cause and to Mr. Metz & Mrs. Dreyer for all of their hard work in putting together the blood drive!  Also -- a BIG THANKS TO MCDONALDS of  Celina for donating breakfast sandwiches to all donors on the morning of the drive!

CHS Wax Museum

On Friday (April 9th), the German 3 classes hosted their annual Wax Museum.  Each student chooses a famous German figure and researches the person.  They create a poster, costume, and props and pose for the Wax Museum.  This always turns out to be a fun and entertaining way for students to learn a little more about German Culture.   Thanks to Mrs. Tobe and the German 3 students for their hard work in putting on this year's Wax Museum.

CHS Student Recognized at Scholarship Banquet

CHS Senior Gina Everman was honored at the Mercer County Franklin B. Walter Scholarship banquet on Wednesday night. Gina is one of two valedictorians of her graduating class and was one of 6 recipients of the scholarship in the county. Each recipient chose one 'Teacher of Influence' -- Gina choose Mrs. Franzer, Math Teacher, for her caring personality and willingness to go the extra mile to help her students. Mrs. Franzer spoke highly of Gina, praising her for her willingness to help others and her strong work ethic.


Congratulations to both Gina and Mrs. Franzer for receiving this prestigious honor.

Scholastic Team Set to Appear on High-Q

MARK YOUR CALENDARS... The CHS Scholastic Team is set to make two appearances on WHIO-TV's (Channel 7) "High-Q".   HIGH Q is a question and answer game played in four periods between two teams of four players; each player for each team being from the same school.  The contests are taped in advance and then played throughout the school year.  CHS will appear on April 11th and May 9th @ 8:30 AM.  Set your VCR / DVR to record!!

The Scholastic Team will be wrapping up its 2009-2010 season by participating in the Knowledge Master Open (an international competition of over 600 teams done via computer) on April 21 and the traditional Faculty-Student match in May. In addition to the Knowledge Master, the varsity team competed in nine different tournaments during the year while the junior varsity saw action in five. Highlights for the year were a strong run on Channel 7 WHIO's High-Q (tune in April 11 and May 9 at 8:30 a.m.) and a first place  finish (32 teams) at the Wright State Lake Campus Senior Scholastic Bowl.

National Honor Society Induction Ceremony

On Sunday afternoon, 45 CHS students were inducted into the National Honor Society.  During the ceremony, new and two-year members recited the Honor Society pledge to "uphold the high purposes of the National Honor Society."  Two-year members were also honored for their community service, totaling over 1,100 hours of community service by the 22 two-year members.  Earning $400 in scholarship money were Cassandra Chittum (123 hours of service) and Adam Carr (89 hours of service)the winners of the Service Scholarship award.

Chicago Art Trip

Scholastic Team Earns 1st Place Honors

The CHS Scholastic Team, coached by Mr. Hal Hoover, earned 1st place honors this week at the Senior Scholastic Bowl.
